CDPAP Success Story: Finding Strength through Family Caregiving
March 11, 2020When you're in the business of home care, you can't help but feel a connection to those you serve. Caregivers don't just look after their clients, they become part of their families. But in the case of our Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP), our caregivers start out as family and close relations. Our CDPAP clients depend on trusted individuals in their lives to look after and care for them on a daily basis, while affording them the reassurance that they will be compensated for performing everyday acts of kindness.
Our Director of Intake, Daria, had a wonderful story to share with us here at True Care. This is such a touching story we felt the need to share it with our community as well.
"One of our clients is a lovely 94-year-old woman who was married to her beloved husband for over sixty years. When I hear of couples married for many years, it inspires me. This woman always tells me some funny stories about how she met her husband, how she had a simple but nice wedding, and all about the five children they raised during thier marriage."
"She once told me, the moment she knew she was in love with her husband was when she’d call him at work just to hear his voice. Now, 65 years later, she would give her life to hear his voice again, even if just for a second. When he passed away, every minute felt so lonely and she prayed that G-d would take her to him sooner. Her youngest daughter quit her job and left her career just to help take care of her. Under the CDPAP program her daughter has the opportunity to stay home with her mother and support her every minute. Her husband passed away 3 years ago and she cannot describe how grateful she is for this chance to receive support and care from her child. She is now waiting for her time to see her husband again, but she is no longer afraid. She knows her kids are always with her, at home, and she will leave this world with peace of mind that her family will be by her side.'"
